Red River Operation Clean Up (RROC) is a unique environmental program whereby key community stakeholders from the private and public sector have come together to tackle a common cause – cleaning up the Red River.

Since its inception, RROC has removed thousands of pounds of debris from the banks of the Red River and Lake Winnipeg. This has had a huge impact in addressing the problem.

With winter just around the corner, collecting garbage along the our beautiful Red River must continue.

The Red River in the winter is covered with aproximately 600 ice fishing shelters.

The garbage left behind by a minority of ice fishing anglers is absolutely appalling. You wouldn't believe what we find. Everything from garbage, furniture, wood pallets, to entire shelters are left behind on the ice.

Unfortunately,  a small percentage of anglers are ruining it for the majority and something has to change. The province of Manitoba is being lobbied to ban permanent ice fishing shelters in favor of temporary pop-ups.
